Golden necklace

There was a baby girl born into a family almost 40 years back.
Her parents were very happy when she was born. They adored her.
They wanted to give her everything, but they couldn't because they never had enough money.
Later she was joined by a younger sister.

And then there was a golden necklace. A small necklace. One pawan thookkam, meaning it weighed 8 grams. It was given to the girl by her dad for her first birthday.
At that time, she couldn't understand the value of that.
It was not at all an expensive thing for a middle class family but it was for her family.

Every time her dad needed some extra money, he used to loan this necklace to the bank and bank used to give him some money. So it was their security whenever they needed to borrow money from the bank. So, this necklace was in the bank most of the time. This necklace being in their house meant that their family didn't have any loan at that time and dad could take the necklace from the bank.
It was in her second grade she started noticing that her friends were wearing golden chains.
Oh how much she wanted to wear a gold chain then!!!!
She went home and told her mom, but mom explained to her that they couldn't afford it at that time, but next time when the necklace is at their home, she could wear it to school.
She has been waiting for that day for months and months.
One Friday when she came home, her mom showed her the necklace and told her she could wear it to school.
She was over the moon.
She couldn't wait to go back to school next Monday.
Then, it was Saturday and her great aunt(she was very poor and had 4 grand kids)came home and begged her dad that there was an unfortunate event in the family and she needed some money to feed her grandkids.
Dad didn't have money to spare, so he took the necklace to the bank.
She cried and cried and cried. She was not old enough to understand that the starving kids were more important that her wearing the necklace.

Anyway, she couldn't wear the necklace to school.
She could never wear that necklace in fact because it never came out of the bank.

Years later, she became and adult and started working. Now, she could afford a big gold necklace.
Alas! By that time, she had lost all interest in jewelry especially gold jewelry.
Now she wish she had that passion of the second grader to have a golden necklace and wear it to school(or office)!
What she wants now is something else but not a gold necklace(or not anything money can buy), but she knows she can't have that now.

Will she appreciate this still many years later when she will be able to afford this finally?

Life has a cruel sense of humor most of the time!
